I. RA Series: AI-enabled Microcontrollers
Renesas’ RA Series MCUs integrate AI acceleration units, embedding artificial intelligence capabilities directly into the microcontroller form factor.
The RA8P1 is Renesas’ first MCU to feature the Arm Ethos-U55 NPU. By utilising the NPU to offload computationally intensive operations from the CPU in Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs), it can efficiently run mainstream neural network models such as DS-CNN, ResNet, MobileNet and TinyYolo. Renesas has also simultaneously launched the RUHMI unified heterogeneous model integration framework, further lowering the development barrier for edge AI.
The RA8P1 is primarily targeted at AIoT end devices such as video conferencing cameras, AI-powered robotic arms and AI surveillance cameras, delivering speech recognition and visual AI capabilities at low cost and low power consumption.

2. RZ/V2N — Mid-range, High-efficiency Vision AI MPU
Launched in March 2025, the RZ/V2N is Renesas’s mid-range flagship product for the mass-market vision AI sector. Targeting volume applications that are cost-sensitive yet require high AI computing power, the RZ/V2N delivers excellent energy efficiency within a compact package.
3. RZ/V2L — Entry-Level, High-Value-for-Money AI MPU
The RZ/V2L is the flagship product in the RZ/V series for general-purpose edge AI applications. With 0.5 TOPS of AI processing power, the RZ/V2L precisely targets the entry-level and mid-to-low-end visual AI market, making it the most cost-effective choice for basic AI cameras, smart retail terminals and general industrial control scenarios.
4. RZ/V2M / RZ/V2MA — Dedicated Visual AI MPU
The RZ/V2M is equipped with a DRP-AI accelerator, has a typical power consumption of just 4W, requires no cooling fan, and supports 4K/30fps image processing, making it the ideal choice for compact AI devices. The RZ/V2MA, in addition to the DRP-AI, also integrates an OpenCV accelerator, further enhancing the value of image processing.
